Jack's approach to Counseling blends the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy with the depth and scope of more traditional, insight oriented, psychodynamics.
Working with clients to help them identify the obstacles that prevent them from realizing their goals, he offers concrete interventions that promote personal growth. At the same time, Jack can help clients understand why they behave the way they do, offering insight as to how to stop harmful cyclical behavior.
Jack completed his Master's degree from Hunter College School of Social Work, where he studied individual and group therapies. He is well versed in cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, narrative and family therapies. Jack is proud to have had the opportunity to put his skills to effect working with individuals and groups at Center CARE, the mental health clinic located at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center. Jack has also had the opportunity to put his skills to work as a counselor at the New York State Psychiatric Institute working extensively with families and individuals in crisis.
Prior to completing his Master's degree, Jack bartended for many years, and pursued an acting career, with an emphasis on performing and writing sketch comedy.
Jack has lived in New York since 1992, hailing originally from Chicago. While he appreciates the gravity of mental health and personal growth, he approaches Counseling in a friendly manner and with a healthy dose of humor.
